Manual Processing, this has been the payment method of choice for existing merchants. The credit card information is stored, and then manually typed in the merchant's existing terminal. It keeps setup and recurring charges low, and utilities the merchant's existing merchant account. Once the volume of orders grows to a point where the merchant can no longer handle the volume manually punching in the credit card numbers they migrate to automatic credit card processing.
Automatic Processing, the credit card numbers are still stored, the card is checked for available funds, and the card can be billed by clicking the bill button in the back office. This method works for new businesses who do not have terminal machines already, and existing merchants with a high volume of transactions.
