Live Review

Mighty Mighty Bosstones

by Robert McClory

Well, they managed to find the only person on the planet that hadn’t seen the Mighty Mighty BossTones live before. Now the universe is in sync and all is well with the world.

I went. I saw. I photographed. I enjoyed.

This band lived up to the hype. They charged through their set of old and new BossTones tunes with the fury of a caged platypuss. They serenaded the packed Firestone club with classics such as... well,0 I said I had never seen them before; did I mention never really heard them before?

But judging by the crowd participation, this band has a following that reaches the four corners of the earth and demands ritualistic lyric memorization. The legendary horn section thrashed and clashed with a distinctly hardcore sound.

I must admit to being won over early by the power of this band and their ska/hardcore rhythms, but I wasn’t converted completely until they closed the planned encore with Minor Threat’s "Think Again." What a perfect way to close out a great show. Next time the BossTones pass this way I will be down there among the aware.
